Alfa Romeo drivers Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas recaptured their positions in the Interlagos sprint, finishing thirteenth and fourteenth. The team expects to have a productive race and earn points.
Frederic VasseurTeam Principal: “Both drivers recovered and showed good pace, which gives us confidence for the race.
The race will be long, but on Saturday we saw that there can be a lot of battle on the track, and if we can match today’s pace then we will be battling for points. It is important to start clean and avoid problems in the early laps. We have the potential to put in a good result.”
Guanyu Zhou (13th): “We had a good pace in the sprint, so we can be happy that we gained a few places back at the start and got higher places.
At first I thought it was going to be a tough fight – I lost a few positions on the first lap because I was stuck from all sides and then I went wide in Turn 5. I was worried that I would spend most of the sprint in the last positions would spend, but I was able to quickly overtake my rivals and finish thirteenth.
The car drove well and if we work up to speed on the first lap and maintain our positions at the start, we have a very good chance of fighting for the points in the race. ”
Valtteri Bottas (14th): “I did my best in the sprint and started the race from a higher position. In the beginning I lost a few places, but then came back thanks to a good pace. I was able to attack and regain positions until the finish. The longer the segment lasted, the better the pace got – this gives me confidence for the race.
Our goal is to finish in the top ten – I think that’s a realistic goal. Our pace was faster than the closest rivals, so we will try to earn points.”
