Kevin Magnussen: We knew we wouldn’t win the sprint

Kevin Magnussen started from pole position in the sprint but soon rivals in faster cars overtook the Dane. However, the Haas rider earned a point for eighth position. His teammate Mick Schumacher broke through from twentieth to twelfth place.

Kevin Magnussen (8th): “I liked the sprint – the team earned one point, which is very important in our battle for eighth place with AlphaTauri.

We knew we wouldn’t be able to win the sprint, so we didn’t set such a target for ourselves. I just wanted to enjoy the start from pole and then try to score points. I dreamed of finishing ahead of Lando Norris, just behind the leaders, but it didn’t work out. Still, we are satisfied with the deserved point for eighth place.

In the race I start eighth – usually based on qualifying we are happy with this position. I start in the top ten and I hope that we will also earn points on Sunday.”

Mick Schumacher (12th): “I had a good first lap – I regained the positions and everything was fine with the pace, so I managed to fight.

There was a small problem with the engine – yet to determine the cause and find out how much it slowed down the pace. In the race I will start close to the top ten, so I’m sure we have a lot of potential.”

Gunther Steiner, Team Principal: “Kevin started from pole and we got what we wanted: we got points. Yes, just one point, but it was hard for us to fight with the leaders.

Mick had a very good race from 20th to 12th so he is also in a good position at the start of the race. Sunday we will have the chance to earn points and Saturday was great thanks to the fantastic work of the whole team.”
