Toto Wolff did not come to Sao Paulo and this weekend the Mercedes team was led by chief race engineer Andrew Shovlin. After finishing the race, which ended with a winning double from George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, he was happy to comment on the results on Sky Sports, without hiding his joy.
Andrew Shovlin: “We have been working towards this for a long time, almost a whole year, and today we have achieved an excellent result. It’s just fantastic! I am absolutely happy.
We haven’t changed anything on the car, it’s exactly the same as in Austin, and it seems the W13 worked really well on that track. Saturday’s sprint was a real test, we had very little time to prepare the car, but our engineers and mechanics did a great job.
Although Toto Wolff is not in the paddock this weekend, I can say that he is also very satisfied. Throughout the race we kept in touch with him, informed about all the decisions we made, but of course it’s still a shame that he missed such an event and can’t celebrate the winning double with us.
George Russell is one of those riders who rides very comfortably in first position. We see that he stays calm, knows what needs to be done and he was in great shape all weekend. Overall, this is a great result!”
