Pierre Gasly appeals to FIA for common sense

On Thursday, there was further discussion in Barcelona about the ban on the wearing of jewelry by riders during races. The reason was the fines that Pascal Wehrlein and Mitch Evans received during the Formula E race weekend in Monaco. Both riders were fined €1,000 and penalty points for not removing their chains from their necks during qualifying.

AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly urged the FIA to use “common sense” and dialogue to find a compromise on jewellery: “We need an open discussion about where all this will lead In the end we are talking about not the main topic, from which they have blown up a high profile story I think common sense needs to be included.

For 70 years, wearing jewelry didn’t bother anyone. Yes, compared to last year a lot has changed in the rules, the way they are monitored has changed, but all the riders agree that dialogue is needed. We have to put our point of view, and the FIA, theirs to come to a compromise.”

When asked if he thought it was unfair that Lewis Hamilton was given an exception for wearing jewellery, Pierre replied: “No, I don’t think so. This subject concerns all of us.

I have my beliefs, other riders have theirs. Pilots choose to wear jewelry for several reasons. I have my own opinion on this, obviously Lewis does too.
