The head of Ferrari Mattia Binotto said that in the second half of the season the team did not adjust the car – this was the reason for the deterioration in results. According to Binotto, the rejection of new products is due to the fact that the Scuderia reached its budget cap and could not afford to spend more to avoid breaking financial regulations.
“We had no choice – we just spent all the money within budget,” Mattia Binotto said after the race in Sao Paulo. – We reached the limit, so we could no longer afford to modify the car. We had to make do with what we have.
Of course, this did not affect the development of the car for the next season. But at some point we had to stop refining the F1-75 because there was still production to be done alongside new product development, and this was an extra cost we couldn’t afford.”
Commenting on Mercedes’ first win of the season in Brazil, Binotto said: “This result was not a surprise to us, because they were very fast and could have won earlier if they had chosen different tyres.
Mercedes had the fastest car in the last few races, so the result of the Brazilian stage came as no surprise. They brought a new aero kit to Austin that works great – now they’re reaping the benefits.”
