Recently in the Italian press there was information about the imminent resignation of Mattia Binotto from the position of head of the Ferrari team. The Scuderia promptly issued a refutation and on Thursday in Abu Dhabi the team’s driver, Charles Leclerc, commented on the subject.
Charles Leclerc: “There are always a lot of rumors in Formula 1, especially around Ferrari – nothing new in this regard. At the end of the season, there are different voices, but the team must concentrate on the work on the track and try not to pay attention to what is happening outside.
For some reason people forget how big of a step forward we have made compared to last year, but of course we have to take the next step. We are going to do it together and try to finish the season with a high result. I have nothing more to say – I don’t think this subject should be given so much attention.
There was a big headline in the press but they are just rumours, although the team was unpleasant to read this. It’s good that the team cleared up the matter.
I believe stability pays off. In recent years we have shown that we are making progress, but, as I said, we need to take another step forward. We are working on it and I am sure it will work.”
Leclerc also commented on the departure from Formula 1 of Sebastian Vettel, with whom they had been partners in Ferrari for two seasons: “Sebastian is an incredible driver who has achieved a lot in the sport.
He’s a great person. I remember when I was still racing in Formula 2, I came to work on the simulator. I was sure that Sebastian did not know about this, but after some time I received a letter from him thanking him for the work done.
I learned a lot from him. We had some tense moments on the track, but we always treated each other with respect. Sebastian has always been very caring.”
