Mazepin hasn’t ruled out a return to Formula 1

Russian racing driver Nikita Mazepin told he had been forced to put his sporting career on hold and did not rule out a return to Formula 1.

Mazepin was the Haas team driver in the 2021 season, finishing 21st in the final standings. On March 5, 2022, it was announced that the team was ending its cooperation with the Russian.

– I forced my career to stop. I consider myself an active professional athlete. I constantly maintain my professional form, I train. I don’t rule out my return to Formula 1. Time will tell, you have to be ready for anything.

Of course, in the absence of Formula 1, I have the possibility to choose what to do and what to focus on. Now I dedicate a lot of time to the work of my fund. “We act as one,” Mazepin told .

On November 12 and 13, Sochi hosted the first round of the Nikita Mazepin Karting Cup.

– I enjoy competition. I’m glad it created a festive mood, especially for the little racers. For me, the Plastunka go-kart track is a kind of symbolic, native place. As a child, I also trained and competed on this legendary karting track. This year, the territory of the go-kart track has been put in order, now it is much more convenient to train. I am very happy that in our country there are such emblematic places where whole generations of pilots grow up.

— Do you finance the Cup entirely yourself or does someone help you?

— Holding an event of this magnitude always involves the participation of several organizers. Carrying out the Karting Cup in Sochi is first and foremost my initiative to support young karting drivers who train and work on themselves on an equal footing with adults. This year, we presented new tires to all participants in the Micro category to participate in the Cup at all three stages. And from the second stage, all participants in the “Mini” category will be exempt from mandatory fees,” Mazepin said.
