After finishing the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Christian Horner summed up the incredibly successful season – the head of Red Bull Racing is convinced that the team should dedicate these successes to Dietrich Mateschitz.
Christian Horner: “It’s been an incredible year! Seventeen victories plus two more in sprints, five doubles, championship title, constructors championship, besides that we were very close to our riders taking the first two places in the individual classification.
It was made possible by the hard work of people who we don’t see racing because they stay behind the scenes – but they all worked really hard to win this championship. We couldn’t even imagine that we would ever achieve such success.
But in previous years we have also experienced the bitterness of defeat. Our team dominated in the 2013 season and in 2014, after changing the technical regulations, it was far behind. But we never stopped believing, we continued to achieve our goal and we still have many of those specialists who worked at Red Bull Racing in those years with us. Of course there are also a lot of new people and the whole team worked together to overcome all the challenges and get back to the leading positions.
We succeeded last year and in 2022 we took the next step and won the Constructors’ Championship after an eight-year break. Last year, when the season ended, the whole team was just exhausted – after everything we had to endure. This year there were successes and failures and problems to solve, but one of the biggest losses was the death of Dietrich Mateschitz, the founder of our team.
He had a passion for Formula 1 and gave so many drivers the chance to shine, so everything we’ve achieved this year we have to dedicate to him.”
