Q: Max, a landslide victory ended the most successful season of your career…
Max Verstappen: Yes, a good race. I knew that if you have to make two pit stops, problems could arise. I didn’t have two fresh sets of Hard, so I immediately agreed to one pit stop.
I started on Medium, during the first stint I rode at a good pace – it was only in the last three laps that the wear started to bother me, but I had to reach a certain circle and in the end I even managed to extend this segment.
Then I got the hard tyres, got them going quickly and at one point I wanted to go faster, but we weren’t sure if they would last to the finish. We checked the wear, at a certain point you had to choose whether I would continue the race with one or two pit stops, luckily at that point the tires were fine – and I could drive them to the end.
Q: Has the car balance changed for the better in the week since Brazil?
Max Verstappen: It’s a different circuit, a different weekend. In Brazil we had a lot of problems, but we knew what went wrong. In Abu Dhabi we have been much more competitive since the start of the weekend.
Question: How do you rate the results of the season?
Max Verstappen: Excellent teamwork after a difficult start to the season. None of us thought that we would be able to pay for ourselves, but everything worked out. I am happy to be part of this team!
We have fun. We are focused on results, but we know how to rejoice in our achievements. This year we have achieved the goal, and now we are fully focused on the future.
Everyone always says they strive to achieve more. In our case it is not easy to achieve more than this season, but we will strive for it.

Max Verstappen: In Spa.
Q: There are still 105 days before the first race of the next season. What are your plans?
Max VerstappenA: Don’t plan anything. Relax a bit, relax, spend time with family and friends.
Q: Your rivals, especially Mercedes, have made serious progress during the season. Everyone is waiting for the battle to get closer in 2023…
Max Verstappen: I think so too. Engineers understand the new machines better, the teams are gradually getting closer. From our side, the weekend was positive, which makes us optimistic.
We understand that we have to work to the maximum in the winter to get more out of the car and learn to work even better with rubber, which will also change in 2023. Let’s see how we handle all this.
