Piastri happy to finally join McLaren

The test day in Abu Dhabi marked the beginning of Oscar Piastri’s full partnership with the McLaren team; on Tuesday, the Australian completed 123 laps or 650 km on the Yas Marina circuit, which is more than two Grand Prix distances.

Oscar Pistri (14th): “Good first day with McLaren – I think we learned a lot. It’s great to finally join this team and I want to thank her for a fruitful day at the track. We did a lot of laps and several experiments performed – that’s what the day was dedicated to.

I got a pretty clear picture of what needs to be improved in preparation for the upcoming season. I liked everything, I’m happy to get behind the wheel again and gain experience driving the 2022 car. Next week at base in Woking I will meet the whole team, then have a short break, and then I will get back to work with McLaren and prepare for 2023.

Lando Norris (18th): “Useful day. It’s good that we spent some time working with these tires to help Pirelli prepare for next year, but we also gathered important information about their behavior on track.

We worked quite productively and now the season is over. Thanks to Pirelli and all our team for the work! Ahead of the winter off-season, as we prepare for the 2023 championship, we are doing everything we can to ensure that our business is successful from the very beginning of the championship.”

Andrew Stella, CEO of McLaren Racing: “It was a productive day of testing in Abu Dhabi, we did a lot of important work. First of all, it’s great that Oscar got behind the wheel of the MCL36 – the integration process with McLaren has begun.

His main task today was to do as many laps as possible and adapt to the team. Speaking of Lando, it would be good for him to get information about Pirelli tires before 2023.

Oscar completed 123 laps, Lando 115 and I would like to thank the race crew, all the Woking base staff and the drivers for the work done today. The long season is over, the racing crew will return to the McLaren Technology Center and then go on holiday, they really deserve it, and now it’s time to recover, because they will all be needed in 2023.
