On the eve of Fernando Alonso, the Aston Martin car team tested for the first time. We already quoted the words of the two-time Formula 1 world champion that he was pleasantly surprised by the start of the collaboration with the team. Today, Aston Martin’s press office quoted another statement from Fernando, detailing the car’s impressions.
Fernando Alonso «I have been waiting for these tests for a long time and have had a very pleasant experience. The day you get behind the wheel of a new car for the first time is always special. I got used to the team and got used to the car, meeting mechanics and engineers, trying to memorize a lot of new names in a short period of time.
Nothing particularly surprised me – the car behaved perfectly on the track and we completed 97 laps without any problems. The day has been useful. It turned out that my seat did not fit perfectly, so that I now have pain in some places. Will have to make a new chair when he has a little more time.
In addition, you need to remember the location of all the buttons on the steering wheel, adjust the volume of the radio – these little things still need to be brought to perfection. These questions must be answered quickly in order to fully concentrate on driving the car.
There’s a lot of work to do in the winter, including spending many hours on the simulator learning the location of the buttons on the steering wheel and mastering all the procedures that are different from what I’m used to. I have to work them out to bring them to automatism and come to Bahrain 100% prepared.
Next year’s car will be very different from the current one, so the feedback isn’t very relevant to the AMR23. But I saw a different approach to working with settings, finishing the car and working with the power plant. Together with the team we will have to figure out everything to get the most out of all areas.
I felt the energy and motivation of the team and now I can’t wait for next year. I felt a special atmosphere in the pits.”
