The three-day Formula 2 tests on the Yas Marina circuit started on Wednesday. As on the eve in Formula 1, the working day of the drivers and teams was divided into two sessions: morning and afternoon. In the morning Dennis Hauger showed the best time and in the afternoon Richard Fershhor led the protocol – his result of 1:36.395 seconds was the best at the end of the day.
The morning session was interrupted three times by red flags. Carlin riders Enzo Fittipaldi and Campos Cush Maini were thrown off the track but were able to continue. The start didn’t go so well for Brad Benavidez, who drove into the wall and didn’t return to the track before the break.
During the afternoon session, temperatures dropped and speeds increased. Over the course of the races, red flags appeared only once, forty-seven minutes before the end of the session. The reason was a mistake by Jack Crawford – the Hitech driver turned around in the second corner, after which he flew into the barrier. The test day for him ended there.
The Formula 2 tests will continue on Thursday at the Yas Marina circuit.
