Pirelli will have six slick lineups in 2023

Since 2019, Pirelli has provided teams with five formulations of slicks for dry tracks, from C1 to C5, which differ in softness. A sixth line-up will be added in 2023, C0.

The stiffness of the C0 compound will be the same as the 2022 C1 compound, and new in 2023 will be the C1 compound, which should provide a higher level of grip compared to the current C1, but be stiffer than the current C2.

“We have introduced the new C1 line-up and have decided to homologate six line-ups instead of five for next year,” said Mario Isola, head of Pirelli’s racing division. – The current C1 line-up did well at Zandvoort and Silverstone, so we didn’t want to give it up. However, we wanted to create a new C1 compound that would provide more grip than the old C1. So the old C1 will now be called C0.

Next year we will have a new C1 roster. Lineups C2, C3, C4 and C5 remain the same as this year. The new C1 is much closer to the C2 in terms of performance. I would say the only goal we haven’t achieved is to create a new C3 that would be equidistant from C2 and C4.

We will announce the line-up for the first three or four races in the near future, as we already have to produce and ship these tires by sea. But in the choice of other stages, we want to have more flexibility, but this does not mean at all that we will bring links between which there will be two or three steps.
