At the end of the season, McLaren finished fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, one position lower than in 2021. This is partly due to the results of Daniel Ricciardo, who earned 85 points less than team-mate Lando Norris. However, team boss Andreas Seidl does not blame the Aussie for McLaren being behind Alpine.
Andreas Seidl: “I can’t blame Daniel for not finishing fourth this year. Ultimately, this result is my responsibility, the responsibility of the whole team. We did not work with Daniel as we had hoped, despite the great effort both Daniel and we made.
Our team has not been able to earn the points we wanted or could earn. That is the sport and we will try to solve this problem next year.
This past weekend was very emotional as we said goodbye to Daniel. At the same time, the team remained focused on getting as high a result as possible and keeping pressure on Alpine.
The moment when I wished Daniel a good race for the last time before the start was emotional. I’m glad he had a good last race for us and earned points after starting from thirteenth. I think we have completed our collaboration with an excellent result.”
