Rosberg believes Mercedes will be in contention for the title in 2023

2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg is impressed with the progress Mercedes has made in 2022. At the start of the season, the team battled rivals such as Alpine, McLaren and Alfa Romeo, and in the second half it already competed with Ferrari and Red Bull Racing and won in Brazil. Niko thinks that Mercedes drivers will again be among the contenders for the title in 2023.

Nico Rosberg: “It’s incredible how much progress Mercedes has made during the season. At the start of the year they were at least seven to eight tenths behind Ferrari and Red Bull, and in Mexico City and Brazil their car was suddenly the fastest – an incredible turn of events.

I believe they took a step back in Abu Dhabi – the lack of speed in qualifying was a shock to the team, but I think it’s due to the high drag of the car on the straights. Solving this problem will be key to next year’s title challenge.

Will they be able to solve this problem in a few winter months? I believe that Mercedes will at least start the season in the role of overtaking. This year they spent a lot of time troubleshooting the car as the rivals went ahead.

That’s why I think Mercedes will have to catch up with rivals at the start of the year, but as the season progresses they will be able to improve the car to the point where they have a chance to challenge for the title. I believe in such a scenario.”
