After completing training in Barcelona, Andreas Seidl, the head of the McLaren team, is in a good mood, as his subordinates managed to overcome all the difficulties that arose on Friday and prepare normally for qualifying. .
Andreas Seidl: “After a tough Friday, when we had to change the monocoque of Lando Norris’ car, which caused the team to work late in the garage, today’s practice was quite productive. We were able to complete the program so we are well prepared for qualifying.
Yesterday Lando went off the track at turn 9 and on the curb damaged the bottom of the car as well as part of the monocoque, so we decided to change the chassis, it was easier than doing complex repairs on the track. So yesterday the team had to work hard, but today both cars are equally fast in training, which is good.
The car is still new, so it’s important to continue the planned work with it, moving forward gradually and trying to fully unlock its potential – that’s the task in today’s qualifying. Let’s see how we deal with it.
When refining the chassis this year, it is important to take into account several factors, including the limited budget, but also the limited time allocated for research in the wind tunnel. But overall I’m happy with how the upgraded MCL36 is performing here in Barcelona and we’ll try to take it one step further in qualifying.
Talking about our direct rivals, it can be noted that Valtteri Bottas and Kevin Magnussen show a very good pace, so I foresee that it will not be easy to get into the qualifying final, and to do this you have to do everything do the best you can. But we have good riders, a good team, so we are ready to fight.”
