During a press conference on Friday, Team Mercedes technical director Mike Elliott was optimistic about the progress made…
Mike Elliott: “On Friday we felt like we had taken a step forward. Now the car behaves more as we expected.
We have done a lot of work to find the cause of straight line swaying and to minimize this effect. We added some elements to the design that stabilized the car – and this weekend we got the chance to use settings that are much more suitable for it. This immediately resulted in downforce, which the riders were satisfied with.
It is still too early to judge in which direction we are going. We’ve changed the car so seriously for this weekend that we still have to figure out how to maximize its potential. We need to find out what time on the circle it is still possible to reclaim, and then evaluate whether we see this direction as the best for further development.
In a situation where the budget is limited, it is important to make the right decisions about the refinement of the car this year and the development of the car for next year.”
