In a brief commentary immediately after qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was unable to say exactly what technical problem prevented him from making the final attempt. Red Bull Racing boss Christian Horner confirmed Max had a DRS malfunction.
Christian Horner: “Max didn’t lose any power, he didn’t have the DRS wing open. The car will need to be examined to determine the cause as the DRS system was activated on the back straight as Max returned to the pits.
I don’t think we had the speed today to beat Charles. He put in a brilliant lap under pressure and I’m glad we qualified on the front row.
Taking the heat into account, tomorrow everything will depend on the degradation of rubber, so we have an exciting race ahead of us. I think Red Bull and Ferrari will have equal pace, so I expect a close fight.”
