The season finale in the electric off-road series Extreme E turned out to be as unpredictable as it was dramatic, but judging by the first reports from Uruguay, Lewis Hamilton’s team won the championship in 2022.
It is no coincidence that Sébastien Loeb, an eight-time world rally champion, is part of Team X44 and today he did his job – in the last race at Punta del Este, the Hamilton team finished third, and this was enough to secure victory set at the end of the season. The result is especially respected because the day before the car of Loeb and his partner, Cristina Gutierrez, was very badly broken, but the team managed to recover it and the riders kept fighting until the end.
Team X44 was only three points ahead of Rosberg X Racing, Nico Rosberg’s team leading until the last lap, but they were unlucky this weekend. What bad luck on Sunday and Carlos Sainz Sr.’s team, although she performed well in yesterday’s qualifying, as we said. But today their electric SUV got into a serious mess and got damaged.
And victory went to the ABT Cupra XT team, which is represented by Nasser Al-Attiyah, a three-time Dakar winner – this is his first such achievement in Extreme E.
However, both yesterday and today, the results of qualifying and races were affected by different types of penalties, so the results of the season are also preliminary. The news on the off-road series’ official website ends with the following sentence: “At the moment, the results of the X Prix Uruguay are being investigated.” It is not reported with what it is connected to.
