Magnussen: We improved by working with the settings

In Barcelona, Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher qualified eighth and tenth respectively. For the first time since the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, both Haas drivers reached the qualifying final, Mick for the first time in his career. The team expects two cars to score points in the race.

Kevin Magnussen (8th): “I am very satisfied with the result. For the first time in the season we reached the final with two cars – the result shows how good the car is. It’s interesting that a lot of teams brought novelties this weekend, but it doesn’t feel like they helped them add noticeably. We have not brought updates, but we have made a small step forward by working with the settings.

In qualifying I had problems with DRS, which caused me to lose time. I don’t know how big the loss of time was, but today I was close to the top five and could have done better. I will start eighth and plan to fight for the points!”

Mick Schumacher (10th): “Of course we are happy to make it to the final of qualifying. It seemed that I didn’t have enough speed for this, but still managed to get into the top ten.

The inability to work in the third practice definitely slowed down the work, but we managed, so I’m happy with today and very grateful to the team. Many teams have brought updates, but we are happy to know that despite the lack of new products, we are still joining the fray.”

Gunther Steiner, team leader: “A very good day, although I had to be nervous today. In the third practice Mick had problems with the rear brakes. The guys worked hard and were able to get his car ready for qualifying – we couldn’t ask for more from the team.

For the first time since 2019, both Haas machines made it to the qualifiers! I think this result shows the progress of the last races, that’s just fantastic. Kevin had some issues with DRS. If he hadn’t done this, he might have qualified higher, but we are still happy with the result.”
