The organizers of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix spoke about the changes that have taken place at the Jeddah circuit ahead of the 2023 season.
The main changes relate to improving visibility when cornering for safety. In turns 14 and 20, the walls are moved further away from the track and so-called noise strips are applied, which causes the suspension to vibrate. Adjusted mesh guards in turns 8 and 10 to improve visibility.
Sound strips are installed in the 3rd, 14th, 19th, 20th and 21st turns; in the 4th, 8th, 10th, 11th, 17th and 23rd turns, beveled curbs are installed instead of steel curbs.
The biggest changes have occurred in the S-shaped ligament of Turns 22 and 23 – due to the change in the location of the fence at Turn 23 and the installation of bevelled curbs, the estimated speed at the top of the turn will be approximately 50 km /u lower than in 2022.
Martin Whitaker, Stage Promoter: “The past two races have proven that Jeddah is the fastest and most exciting urban circuit in the world, and the new changes will only add to the spectacle.
It is important for any track to listen to the opinions of those racing it in order to constantly grow and improve. We are convinced that all these changes will lead to even faster, more exciting and, above all, safer racing. We look forward to seeing the best drivers in the world at the start in 2023.”
