The new Aston Martin base will be commissioned in 2023-2024

After purchasing the Racing Point team four years ago, Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll set his sights high and declared that one day it would win the championship.

Stroll did not skimp on investments. The Canadian businessman became the owner of the Aston Martin brand and renamed the team. He brought together the best staff from other teams and invested in the construction of a new base in Silverstone on a 16-hectare site. The base will house a design office and production shops, its own wind tunnel, warehouses and offices under one roof, enabling the team to reach a new level.

According to technical director Dan Fallows, the wind tunnel at the new Aston Martin base will be fully operational in August 2024.

Dan Fallows: “Depending on how the wind tunnel is commissioned, the AMR25 will be the first machine in which we can fully operate.

We will open the rest of the base property in stages next year so that we will receive certain benefits as early as 2023. Now our employees are forced to work in different locations, and gathering everyone in one place will greatly improve the dynamics of their interaction.

I used to work in a big, open office where it was easy to walk around and interact with people, which encouraged new ideas. Now we want to repeat this in our base.

There is no doubt that it will be a world class facility. It is essential to have access to the wind tunnel 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The time it takes to test a car in a wind tunnel is getting shorter every year, but you can also do other experiments with your own equipment. Now if we share a pipe with another team, we don’t have that option.”

The new building complex will be the first for Formula 1 in the UK since the opening of the McLaren Technology Center in 2004. It’s expensive, but team principal Mike Krak is confident that the appearance of a new base will actually save money in the long run. ..

Mike Crack: “There is always a choice – to make something yourself or to buy it. But if it can be done faster and cheaper, you can do more work for less money, for example preparing two machine upgrades instead of one.”
