Formula 3: Victor Martin achieves second win of the season

ART driver Victor Marten took his second win of the season by finishing first in Sunday’s Formula 3 race in Barcelona. Together with the French driver, Roman Stanek and Isaac Hadjar, a member of the Red Bull youth program, took the podium.

Roman Stanek, who started from pole, lost the lead in the first corner and passed Viktor Marten. Isaac Hadjar climbed to third place and overtook Alexander Smolyar. Lost positions and Arthur Leclerc rolled back from fifth to ninth.

Marten started to build a lead over the pack and showed the best time in the second lap. On lap three, yellow flags appeared on the track due to the departure of Rafael Villagomes after the wheels made contact with Kusha Maini’s car. Villagomez skidded through a gravel box in turn twelfth and crashed into a tire barrier. The safety car came onto the road. The stewards gave Maini a 10-second penalty.

The safety car left the track at the end of the seventh lap. At the restart, the top five held their positions and in the battle for sixth, Jack Crawford was ahead of Kaylen Frederick. After the racer, Hitech caught up with Chao Collet.

Viktor Marten started to break away from the pack, while Roman Stanek was under pressure from Hajjar. Isaac made another attempt on lap 11 to attack second, but failed.

Behind the leaders, Carlin’s Brad Benavidez crashed into the gravel and the car crashed into turn two. The safety car was back on the road.

The restart was given in the fourteenth lap. In the first eight there were no changes of position, David Vidales tried to attack Arthur Leclerc for ninth place. Both riders went off the track in the first corner, there were two contacts between them and both rolled back past ten.

Vidales returned to the pits and pulled back, and Leclerc was able to overtake Grégoire Saucey in the battle for 12th around the circle. Arthur Leclerc was later given a 5-second time penalty for a collision with Vidales.

On lap 20, Leclerc moved up to tenth place, overtaking Correa for the first corner. Juan Manuel defended aggressively and even pushed the Prema rider onto the grass, but that didn’t help him hold off Leclerc. At the end of the circle, however, Arthur made a mistake, allowing Correa to recapture the position.

Victor Martin confidently took the race to victory, finishing with a lead of more than two seconds. Roman Stanek was in second position, Isaac Hadjar was third ahead of Alexander Smolyar.
