Mercedes based road named after Niki Lauda

The Mercedes team paid tribute to Niki Lauda by renaming one of the roads near the base Brackley in honor of the three-time world champion.

Niki Lauda was instrumental in Lewis Hamilton’s transition from McLaren to Mercedes and was a non-executive director of the team until his death in 2019. The road that runs through the center of the Mercedes Technopark is now called Lauda Drive. The team received naming permission from local authorities and Lauda’s family.

Toto Wolff, team principal: “I am honored to present Lauda Drive. Nice that so many team members came to watch the opening. Although our dear friend and colleague Nicky didn’t want us to worry about it, he would be proud to have the road named after him.

It was an honor for all of us to work with him and I am happy to call him one of my best friends. He contributed immensely to our success, was a great sparring partner for me and a great non-executive director that we all miss so much.

I would like him to be with us because this year I have had to ask him a lot of questions. His legacy lives on in many things, but it’s good to know that many people will be driving Lauda Drive in years to come.”
