Daniel Ricciardo has returned to Red Bull Racing and will be the team’s third driver next season, working on the simulator and taking part in promotions. The Australian does not know if he will race again in 2024, but made it clear that this option is not included in the current contract with Red Bull Racing.
Daniel Ricciardo: “It’s not in my contract that if I do well in the simulator, I get a place in the race car. I believe it will take some time before I realize whether I want to start in 2024.
At this point I don’t feel like I’m quite done racing. Thought I’d like to go back but only time will tell if that’s the case. I’m not going to claim that I can get behind the wheel of any car I want, but ultimately it will be my decision whether to return or not.
The fire still burns inside me, so I decided not to leave completely. I want to see what happens – the fire in me dies out or flares up with renewed vigor.
After the finish in Abu Dhabi I wasn’t too emotional. I’d be lying if I said I was overwhelmed by the same emotions as Sebastian Vettel, because I’m not sure I spent my last race. I decided to take a break next year to find the answer to this question without making hasty and emotional decisions. Of course, lately I have sometimes been visited by thoughts that it is time to end, but these were just emotions. I don’t want to finish before my time is up.”
