Williams debutant Logan Sargent chose number 1 to enter Formula 1. He wanted to choose number 3, but he is busy, so the choice fell on number 2 – the American performed successfully with him in Formula Renault.
Since the FIA allowed drivers to choose numbers in 2014, the number 2 has only been used by Stoffel Vandorn, speaking for McLaren, but more than two years have passed since then, the number has become vacant – and Sargent chose it.
Logan Sargent“My usual number 3 was taken, so I decided to take the winning number from the past – 2, which I had in Formula Renault – and then I had a good season.”
Until 2014, the number 2 was usually on the car of the world champion’s partner, but after that the riders were free to choose numbers. Only one was assigned to the world champion, who could use it (like Verstappen), or not (like Hamilton).
Logan became the second of three F1 debutants to confirm his permanent race number, preceded by McLaren’s Oscar Piastri that he would drive number 81.
Nick de Vries of AlphaTauri has not yet made a decision.
