Capito: Williams is now more pleasant to work with than before

Williams boss Jost Capito is positive about the team’s performance in 2022. Compared to last year, Williams lost two positions in the Constructors’ Championship, but the team managed to increase the competitiveness of the car and adjust their own expectations.

“Last year everyone was happy if we reached the second part of qualifying, and this year we are unhappy if we don’t make it to the final,” Racingnews365 quoted Jost Capito. “It shows how much the team’s expectations have risen, which is a must if you want to get to a competitive level. Expectations must be high.

Despite the fact that the team finished the season in tenth place, we deserved all our points, and not like last year when we were lucky, like in Spa. This year we earned deserved points, consistently reached the second part of qualifying and fought to reach the final.

The team progressed throughout the season, worked great on track and we always had a brilliant strategy. We didn’t make any serious mistakes all season, which is good because it shows that we have an effective relationship that keeps getting better.

Now everyone likes the atmosphere in the team and engineers can choose risky strategies because they feel management’s confidence and understand that they will be supported if something goes wrong. Now working at Williams is much more pleasant than before.

We didn’t have much expectations for the start of the season. We strived to constantly add, because the achievement of this goal can be judged – the team succeeded. It is not our job to win the title, but we are aiming for a higher position in the Constructors’ Championship than tenth.

This approach worked well in our case this year, but it is different from the approach of the leading teams. They want to fight for the title, but in our case it makes no sense, given the fierce battle in the middle of the peloton. But if we compare our competitive position with the rest, we can say that we have achieved our goals by making progress.”
