On the starting field of the circuit in Barcelona, the Red Bull Racing mechanics continued to conjure up the rear wing of Max Verstappen’s car until the last, but team leader Christian Horner assured that this was purely as a precaution.
Christian Horner: “In an ongoing effort to reduce the weight of the car, we are making some changes to the design, in particular we have modernized the rear wing, but yesterday Max had some problems with the DRS system, so of course, try we take preventive measures to prevent this from happening in the future. Of course we have consulted with the FIA beforehand.
I think all the teams, upgrading cars, came close to the limit of what was possible, in particular we saw Carlos Sainz change the chassis.
In our case, however, I’m less concerned about the rear wing – I’m much more concerned about the rubber degradation problem, because it’s very hot today. Let’s see how events will develop.
In previous races our car has worked better with tires than Ferrari, but how it will be this time I don’t know. Ferrari has a few fresh sets of new tires but Max also kept a new set of Soft yesterday – due to a malfunction in the DRS system, he didn’t try again. So we’re still fighting.”
