The Ferrari team commented on Charles Leclerc’s retirement from the Spanish Grand Prix during the race.
Charles Leclerc: “The engine just cut out, I felt it completely lost power. A pity of course, and at such a moment there is nothing to do but to emphasize the positive moments, and there are plenty of them this weekend.
This is qualifying speed and race pace, but the important thing is that we managed to find an approach to rubber, and this was our weak point in the previous two stages. So in this respect we have taken a step forward and that gives me confidence for the next races.
On the other hand, it is necessary to address the causes of what happened, we cannot afford the repetition of such problems. I’m losing the championship lead and maybe not leading anymore, but that’s okay. Something else is more important: our sheer speed, and in that respect we are doing well. That’s why I hope I can recuperate at my home circuit in Monaco in a week.”
Mattia Binotto, team principal: “Of course not everything is going well today, but Charles is right: we have to look at the positive sides. This season other teams had problems too, and now we’ve had them too – I think that’s part of the game too. We will try to address the cause of the power plant failure as soon as possible.”
