Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff believes Lewis Hamilton could have been in the race for the Barcelona win on lap one, if not for the collision with Kevin Magnussen.
Toto Wolff: “When you realize you’ve lost a race, you always have to decide whether to continue. Do you understand [после внепланового пит-стопа] give the leader 50 seconds, but we never give up. Lewis had great speed in the race. He could fight for the win.
I am very happy that we did not take Lewis out of the race after the incident. For us, this race was an important opportunity to compare the behavior of the two cars, the effectiveness of the selected settings and the performance of the rubber.
Unfortunately Hamilton’s car had a leak in the cooling system, this increased as the race progressed and it was not clear if we could finish. At the finish, the situation was literally on the brink, but I’m sure the bike wasn’t damaged.
