McLaren really hoped to finish the season in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship and held onto it for a long time, but eventually lost out to Alpine. Team boss Andreas Seidl believes 2022 has exposed McLaren’s weaknesses…
Andreas Seidl: “This season has clearly shown some weaknesses of our team. When problems with the brakes surfaced, it became clear that we didn’t have enough technical resources compared to other teams to work on finalizing the current car while developing a new one.
We have decided to increase the number of engineers, which allows us to work on two projects in parallel. I hope that this will allow us to take another step forward next year.
This is Formula 1 today. If the duration of the test is minimal, skipping a few days due to problems with the brakes will throw you way back.
We had to use a lot of resources to fix brake problems, although we intended to spend them on improving the competitiveness of the car. To some extent this even affected the development of next year’s car, as we couldn’t start it as early as we’d like.
