Valtteri Bottas in Barcelona proved to be the best of the rest, finishing sixth. Guanyu Zhou retires due to engine problems…
Frederic VasseurTeam Principal: “Another race in which we showed our speed convincingly by finishing just behind the leaders and earning eight points.
We are happy with our performance, we didn’t expect the track in Barcelona to match our car, but now we can be sure that it will be fast every race weekend.
Valtteri had a great race, he drove clear, but with fresher tires he was helpless against the attacks of Sainz and Hamilton.
Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, Zhou was unable to finish. He bounced back quickly and was close to a ten when the car abandoned him. We have to find and solve these problems to score points with two cars in each race.”
Valtteri Bottas (6th): “Positive race, which gave us some important points. The pace on the distance was very high, I enjoyed the fight against strong teams – this confirms our progress and the effectiveness of the novelties prepared by the team.
We decided to take the risk with a strategy of two pit stops versus three for most rivals, but it didn’t work – the Medium tires turned out to be shorter than we expected, the rubber was worn out at the end of the race, but we managed anyway achieved a good result. I’m looking forward to the race in Monaco, where our car should also be in good shape.”
Guanyu Zhou (retirement): “It’s a shame to be out early for the second weekend in a row, especially if a good result is possible. We need to understand what happened and prevent it from happening again.
Before retiring, I fought with rivals successfully and made it to the top ten. Let’s hope for a better result in Monaco – it will be a very interesting weekend.”
