Australian Oscar Piastri will replace Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren next year. On the Beyond The Grid podcast, Daniel was asked what advice he gave his compatriot before starting his debut season…
Daniel Riccardo: “I was told to him, ‘Just get behind the wheel and drive.’ I know it sounds like an excuse, but you just have to sit down and go, soak up knowledge like a sponge, don’t set the bar too high, if you end up performing better than expected, then everything is fine.
He just has to move forward race after race. As long as you’re learning and feeling like you’re getting better with every race, don’t expect more from yourself.
Despite not fully understanding the reasons for my failures at McLaren, this experience was useful for the team. Maybe they learned from situations where we made mistakes and went the wrong way, I think. All this experience will help Oscar. I hope he gets a head start that way.”
