The German National Automobile Club ADAC has acquired all rights to the DTM brand and will continue to independently promote this popular touring car series. The fact that the former promoter, the company ITR, which was led by Gerhard Berger, announced the closure due to financial difficulties, we told.
Today it was confirmed that the parties have succeeded in reaching an agreement and that the DTM will once again become a championship, to be held under the auspices of ADAC from now on. The car club is already involved in series such as the German GT Masters, GT4 and TCR Deutschland championships.
Gerhard Berger: “This is good news for the huge army of DTM fans. Thanks to the efforts of our company and its partners, the series has developed remarkably well in recent years. The 2022 season was great, we had a record number of entries on the grid, many premium car brands were represented in the DTM and our races received good coverage on TV channels around the world.
Until the end of the season, the intrigue continued, the battle went wheel to wheel – this is exactly what the fans always want. It’s time to secure the DTM for a long term future. That is why I have decided to hand over the brand to the ADAC Automobile Club – I firmly believe that the DTM is now in safe hands.”
Gerd Ennser, ADAC President Sports: “There is no other brand that represents German motorsport better than the DTM. ADAC considers it important to preserve it, as it is part of the cultural heritage of motorsport.
The DTM has an excellent reputation not only in Germany, but in the world in general. From next year, a new chapter in the history of this series will begin, but now under the auspices of ADAC.”
The 2023 DTM calendar has not yet been approved, but there should be a press conference on today’s events next week, and this issue is likely to be raised there.
