Aston Martin is committed to aggressive modernization

In 2023, the Aston Martin team plans to take the most aggressive approach to modernizing the car to maintain last season’s fast pace of progress.

In the early races the AMR22 clearly lacked pace, but the team gradually added, and in the final six races Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll earned 30 of Aston Martin’s 55 points for the season.

“This was an important factor that will bolster our confidence in preparing for next year,” quotes Dan Fallows, technical director of the team, edition of Racer. “Obviously we started the year with a car that was slower than we would like, but we were able to modernize the AMR22 at a fast pace.

Particularly in the second half of the season, we proved that the principles incorporated into the chassis design and the ideology chosen by the team paid off. So we intend to apply a very aggressive strategy next year, focusing on fine-tuning the car and taking into account the lessons learned this year.

According to Fallows, the new car will be significantly different from the 2022 model: “Current regulations put us in front of certain limits. I usually do this test: I show my kids a new car and if they say it looks different in some way, then so be it. Granted, they always say that all cars are the same, but given the regulatory constraints, it can still be argued that the differences between the AMR23 will be significant.

Fallows started work last spring and team leader Mike Krak emphasized that the rapid pace of modernization of equipment was partly due to him: “I think the way we managed to earn back has made a big impression. It was good to see the contribution Dan and others make to this by joining the specialists who already worked for us.

I believe we have set up the car at a high pace and it is felt that the morale of the team is at a high level. We have reason to believe that we can continue to move in this direction, so everything is going very well.”
