The race in Barcelona was the second in a row in which Daniel Ricciardo scored no points. Pilot McLaren said he was unable to attack from start to finish due to a lack of track grip.
Daniel Riccardo: “The race for me turned out to be long, one of the longest in recent times. Not to say I was slow for a segment, I was slow all the way from the start. One of the reasons is the lack of tire grip with the track. As soon as I started to attack, the car immediately slipped and lost speed. In the end I took a conservative approach to not strain the tires and was slow as a result.
I have no doubt that everyone was complaining about the tires in the heat, but this kept me from fighting. On the first lap I climbed to eighth thanks to events on the track ahead, including a flat tire with Lewis Hamilton. I was in a good position, but already in the third lap I started to think that I would have to defend soon.
We knew we would have to make two or three pit stops, so I hoped I could improve with the new sets of tires, but in reality I had no speed from start to finish.”
