Magnussen admitted he got excited and blamed Hamilton

Kevin Magnussen is willing to admit that the radio allegations against Lewis Hamilton were made in the heat of the moment, and he may reconsider his assessment of that episode.

After the start of the Spanish Grand Prix at Turn 3 of the circuit, Hamilton fought for position with Carlos Sainz, but had to give way, whereupon Magnussen attacked him in the outer radius of the next corner. There was contact between the cars, after which both had to go to the pits, as both the Mercedes and the Haas had flat wheels.

“Lewis bumped into me, and he did it on purpose!” Kevin informed the team over the radio in an angry tone. However, the stewards did not punish anyone as they believed that both drivers were equally responsible for what had happened, and both rolled back due to an unscheduled pit stop.

If Hamilton managed to bounce back and finish fifth, the Dane was less lucky, finishing the race in 17th but made it clear after the finish that he was getting excited at that point.

“Of course, in the heat of an attack, you always get very upset. But I’ll watch the video of that episode, see what really happened there, then it’s just necessary to move on, – Kevin admitted. “What becomes said, is said, but then you analyze what happened, and often it turns out that not everything was as you imagined.”

Despite the bad end of the Spanish weekend, Magnussen believes it is most important to highlight the positive moments: there is of course a reason to be angry. But the next day the mood will improve and we will prepare for the next race. †
