At the end of 2019, Formula 1 announced its goal of becoming environmentally neutral by 2030 as part of the championship’s broad environmental strategy. Formula 1 released a report today detailing the steps taken in 2022 to achieve its goals.
So last season in Formula 1 they revised the design of containers used to transport goods between legs, which allowed to reduce the number of flights by increasing the capacity of containers. In addition, Formula 1 switched to using Boeing 777F aircraft, which have greater fuel efficiency.
Another step was to reduce the number of staff coming to the stages to organize television broadcasts. All championship offices have been converted to use 100% renewable energy and only recyclable plastic tableware is used during the season stages.
Stefano Domenicali, Head of Formula 1: “We are committed to making Formula 1 more sustainable and increasing the diversity and opportunity in this incredible sport. We remain focused on achieving key goals and have already made significant progress in 2022.
We have taken major initiatives to achieve environmental neutrality by 2030, expanded our scholarship program for underrepresented groups and announced the opening of the Formula 1 Academy, which will provide opportunities for young female drivers to begin their journey to the top of the sport.
We are proud of the results we have achieved, but we know we have to keep working and make positive long-term changes in Formula 1.”
