Seidl: Infrastructure constraints hold us back

The McLaren team finished the season in fifth place, dropping one position from 2021. Manager Andreas Seidl believes this is partly due to the team’s infrastructure, whose capabilities lag those of its main rivals. McLaren expects to close this gap in the coming years.

“We have a clear goal for next year – to take a step forward in all directions,” says Andreas Seidl. – It’s not just about the car, whose weaknesses we know this year, it’s also about the team, which should add all aspects.

At the same time, I am realistic about McLaren’s capabilities at the moment. I recognize all the limitations that hold us back, mostly related to infrastructure, especially when compared to not just the teams ahead of us, but also Alpine and those behind us. Given all this, there is no need at all for us to take a step forward in terms of position in the Constructors’ Championship, but we have to go for it and try to do our job better. These are our ambitions.

In terms of results, we took a step back in 2022, but there were also positive moments, the team got better, so I see the season as positive. We will continue and we know exactly what we need to do to take the team to the next level, but we understand that this will take time.

We need a few more years to take the final step. At the same time, it is important to maintain continuity in the team, because I have no doubt that all the necessary talents are already working for us.”
