Daniel Ricciardo spent two seasons at McLaren but never found an approach to the car and left the team ahead of schedule a year before the contract expired.
When asked by his teammate Lando Norris if Daniel’s problems were related to the fact that McLaren engineers designed the car to suit his driving style, Lando replied: “The car is not designed to suit me better than Daniel. It is a fact!
All I asked for was a pink button on the steering wheel. Pressing it will charge the battery, so stay away from this button. This was my only request.
Of course, in recent years, the engineers have been guided by my comments when developing a car, but they did not design it in such a way that the car suited me better. If that was the case, then they totally failed – the result is terrible. No one has built a car to help me more than Daniel.”
