Lando Norris spent the last race in Barcelona with a sore throat and high fever, and after the finish he did not go to the traditional interview. There was even speculation in the press about who could replace Lando at the wheel in Monaco, but today McLaren confirmed that Norris did not need to be replaced.
Lando Norris: “I always look forward to the race weekend in Monaco. It’s great to race close to home – I can sleep in my bed!
Last year my race was fantastic and although we are not on the same level now, I hope to earn a lot of points. Saturday’s qualifying is critical, but it’s interesting how the race will play out on the new generation of machines.
I use the few days between phases to rest and improve my health. The race in Spain turned out to be really tough, but I’m very happy to have earned points for the team. We have to move forward and prepare for the intense weekend ahead!”
Daniel Riccardo: “I am resting after a hard race and looking forward to the weekend in Monaco. I have a lot of good memories of this race and I hope to create another race this year with the MCL36 and score points for the team. There is always an exciting atmosphere in Monaco – it will be great to feel it. In addition, I am happy that the road from the highway to the house will take little time.
After the race in Spain, I immersed myself with the engineers in the study of telemetry to increase the chances of finishing in the top ten. We learned a lot about the car and updates, and I believe the team will continue to make progress. I hope we have a strong weekend and compete for points. Let’s attack!”
Andreas Seidli, team leader: “I’m looking forward to the weekend in Monaco! The riders and the team love this historic track and we look forward to a good result. The novelties prepared for the Spanish stage have lived up to expectations – the team on the track and at the base continues to optimize the car.
It’s interesting how the new generation of cars will perform on narrow streets. The track is a real test for drivers, as there is practically no room for error and the risk of a safety car departing is very high. This means that many strategy options will have to be evaluated in preparation for qualifying and the race. Let’s get out there and do our best!”
