Ahead of Formula E’s official pre-season testing, which begins on December 13, the teams of the electric series will present their new cars one after the other. Now it’s the turn of NIO333, which will be piloted in 2023 by Dan Tiktum and Sergio Sette Camara.
The British-Chinese team was one of the first to announce that it will continue to compete in the World Electric Car Championship when Formula E transitions to the third generation (Gen3) cars. She finished penultimate in the team standings last season, but in NIO333 she dreams of competing regularly for points again to eventually return to the group of leaders.
This has already happened in its history, because in the very first season of Formula E, Nelsinho Pique became the champion, then he played for the China Racing team, later renamed NEXTEV, and then NIO.
Russell O’Hagan, deputy team leader: “We are delighted to present our NIO 333 ER9 in full war paint. I hope the fans and anyone who follows Formula E will enjoy it because the car looks impressive and we are entering a new chapter in our history.
This is an interesting time for the championship and together with our design team we have put a lot of effort into creating something dynamic, modern and stylish. Now I want to see our car on track in Valencia for pre-season testing as soon as possible.
We have been working on the design of the Gen3 machine for a long time and now comes the important moment. If the car is as fast as it looks good then we will have a successful season. There are already encouraging signs, but time will tell what we are capable of, especially as the wait is not long.”
