Verstappen: Now we also have to win a third title!

One of the protagonists of the FIA press conference in Bologna was of course Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, who won his second title in a row this year.

Max Verstappen: “The emotions were different this year, but I think that’s how it should be. After all, you go all your life towards this goal – to become the world champion of Formula 1, and when you achieve this for the first time, of course, you experience the strongest emotions.

But this year we were more competitive and overall the championship was more fun because our whole team worked really well. Red Bull Racing has scored many victories and won the Constructors’ Championship. I would say that this year everything went better and everyone experienced more positive emotions. Although the experiences after winning the first title were stronger.

Overall, these were two very different seasons, but I can’t decide which scenario is preferable for me. Maybe we should win a third title, then there will be plenty to choose from! In general, we’ll see. Every year you become more and more experienced driver, you begin to understand what can be improved, but of course to win the championship you first have to earn points regularly, in every race and as much as possible.

That’s why it wasn’t easy at the beginning of the season because we went out of the race more than once, but after that I realized I couldn’t afford to make mistakes, so every weekend I had to fly as correct as possible, try so as close as possible to the ideal. These are the demands I made myself every time I got behind the wheel.

If you pick one win, I’ll name the Grand Prix of Belgium at Spa. The car worked perfectly, we hardly had to adjust the settings and we were much faster there than everyone else.

Yesterday it was announced that my home Grand Prix of the Netherlands will remain on the championship calendar until 2025 and that is great news. I enjoy driving on this circuit and meeting the Dutch fans – of course I am very happy that the contract has been extended.”
