Valtteri Bottas is in Australia today, together with Tiffany Cromwell, his girlfriend and professional cyclist, riding through forests, fields and hills, enjoying the nature of the Green Continent, attentively tasting the famous local wine and getting ready to celebrate Christmas in a unusual atmosphere of the Australian summer for a Finnish resident.
But at the same time, the Alfa Romeo racer does not forget about his homeland and, probably, even misses her a little – but after the end of the season, Valtteri still managed to spend a few days in his Finnish country house, go skiing and hockey.
“When I travel the world, I often miss everything that has to do with nature and its pristine purity. Finland differs from many other countries in this regard, Valtteri shared in an interview with the Finnish tabloid Iltalehti. – For example, you cannot drink tap water everywhere. In fact, there are very few countries where this is possible.
Finland has long established an excellent waste management and recycling system because we care about the future. The city of Lahti in particular is making great efforts to become completely CO2 neutral in the future, and we can be proud of that.”
A long season behind us and Bottas is now enjoying a well-deserved rest: “The season was intense and especially in the second part of the schedule it was tight. Now it’s time to rest. At the beginning of the holiday we were in Finland, we had to see family and friends and also go skiing. Now we’re in Australia until January – in fact, this is the first time I’m going to celebrate Christmas outside of Finland.

We plan to do a lot of kilometers on the bike and also in December I will mainly do fitness training, but closer to the start of the season I will pay more attention to training in the gym. Already in January, the training program becomes more systematic and varied.”
In February, Valtteri must finally take part in the Race of Champions, which will be held again in Sweden in February 2023. Last year he was supposed to take part in it and fight for the Nations Cup in the Finnish team with Mika Hakkinen, but literally at the last moment his plans changed.
Now he is even more excited about his debut in this fun competition: “I have wanted to participate in this race for a long time, but unfortunately I had to give it up last year, but now the plans for February are better. On the one hand, the most important thing in the Race of Champions is the participation itself, on the other hand, every time I put on a helmet, I only think about winning.”
