Wolff: Expectations not too high for Monaco

The Mercedes team is clearly making progress and successfully resolving the problems that hindered it in the opening races of the season – this is confirmed by George Russell’s podium in Barcelona and Lewis Hamilton’s successful breakthrough from last position to fifth .

Team leader Mercedes Toto Wolff generally believes Hamilton could be battling for the win in Spain if not for the first lap incident. This does not mean, however, that the W13, while significantly modernized for the Spanish stage of the championship, has eliminated all its shortcomings.

It is possible that certain compromises could increase the pace, causing the W13 to perform worse on slow corners.

“All weekend in Barcelona we lacked speed especially in the slow corners of the last sector,” Wolff told RaceFans. – However, it was probably partly due to overheating of the rubber, and in Monaco the picture may be different.

In the past the Monaco track has not been the most suitable for us, although perhaps because of the large size of our car – it was almost like an elephant. But I am curious to see what results we will be able to achieve this weekend.

We are still struggling to get the tires up to operating temperature, so my expectations for Monaco are lower than on any other track. I’m not sure if I can explain the causes of this phenomenon from a scientific point of view, but at least we will have the opportunity to study it, and this will help the team to fully return to the game.

Indeed, the weather in Monaco won’t be as warm this weekend as it was in Barcelona, where temperatures rose above 35 degrees. Friday promises to be the hottest day on record, with a temperature of 27 degrees, Saturday will be one degree lower and Sunday’s race will be held in relatively cool conditions, judging by the weather forecast – plus 21 and some chance of rain .
