Andrea Stella is McLaren’s team principal and replaces Andreas Seidl. The Italian specialist spoke about the primary tasks that he must solve in 2023.
Andrea Stella: “We have worked well with Andreas, together we have identified some key development areas and now I will continue to work on those. I’m only on my first day in a new position, but I’m already thinking about how I, along with other McLaren leaders, can achieve their goals faster.
When we talk about specific areas, we need to take a step forward and develop a faster car. For some reason we haven’t been able to do this yet. We understand that structural constraints in particular hold us back, but McLaren is investing heavily to overcome these obstacles.
We have major infrastructure changes planned for 2023 – the commissioning of a new wind tunnel and a new simulator. The implementation of these projects is one of my priorities.
At the same time, the team must become stronger in several areas. We understand Formula 1 quite well and understand that the aerodynamics of the car are fundamental. It’s no secret that this is one of the areas where we need to get better. We have talented specialists, but we probably need to increase the number of employees in this area. This is also one of the ongoing projects I’m working on that provides continuity for the team.”
