Former Renault, McLaren, Caterham and Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen will continue his career in the Finnish Rally Championship. In November, the Finn made his debut stage in the WRC in Japan and will spend a season in the championship in his native country in 2023.
Heikki will drive for the new Secto Labs team at the wheel of the Skoda Fabia Rally2. Interestingly, Kovalainen’s partner will be 17-year-old Justus Raikkonen, cousin of 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen. This year, Justus made his WRC debut at the Finnish round, winning the Rally4 category by 24 minutes over his nearest rival.
“After participating in the World Rally Championship round in Japan in mid-November, the situation developed very quickly,” Heikki Kovalainen told Finnish publication Iltalehti when signing a three-year contract. – We met the team and quickly agreed.
I have long dreamed of taking part in the rally championship. My dream has finally come true.”
