Piastri: I want to keep Alpine loyal

On April 6, Oscar Piastri turned 21, and this is the rare opportunity for an Australian driver to get the chance to celebrate his birthday in his native Melbourne, having competed in Europe since 2017.

Piastri is the reigning Formula 2 champion and is Alpine F1’s reserve driver this season, so naturally the team was one of the first to congratulate him. Incidentally, she was on hand in Bahrain to give Oscar the chance to drive a McLaren car if the ailing Daniel Ricciardo had not been allowed to start. As the Australian press writes, the agreements with McLaren will remain in effect during the race weekend in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, before the start of the home round, Piastri’s main workload is communication with the press, and the attention for him today is very high, because his talent and skill have already been recognized, and Oscar can be considered the main hope of Australian motorsport.

Of course everyone is wondering when he will get a spot as an award driver in one of the Formula 1 teams?

On the one hand he is appreciated in Alpine F1, on the other hand Esteban Ocon has a long-term contract with the works team of the French concern Renault and nothing definite can be said about Fernando Alonso’s plans for 2023.

Piastri himself hopes that everything will go well: “I’m sure I can get a spot on the starting field. Of course Alpine has done a lot for my career over the past two years, now the third year of our collaboration starts and I want to stay loyal to this team.

Let’s wait and see how things develop.”
