Ferrari has appointed Frederic Vasseur as the new F1 team principal. 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg believes a change in leadership will not help Scuderia challenge for the title next season.
Nico Rosberg: “Frederic Vasseur is not Toto Wolff. I saw the difficulties Ferrari faced when they were looking for a new leader. It turned out to be very difficult to find someone for this position.
When I see how Toto Wolff works at Mercedes, I have no doubt that he is the best team leader of all time, at least for me. Ferrari has no one with this level of competence.
Ferrari got off to a great start to 2022, having stopped work on the car the year before and moved on to a new project ahead of everyone else. At the start of the season they had the fastest car and Charles Leclerc was in top form. But over the course of the year, they themselves missed everything.
They couldn’t finish the car at the same pace as Red Bull, they made a lot of operational mistakes. As a result, their car was unable to compete with Red Bull in sheer speed at the end of the season. That’s why I don’t have high expectations for them next season. Mercedes will rather be Red Bull’s main rival.”
