Ferrari is gearing up for the Monaco Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc’s home race, where he hasn’t had much luck yet, having retired twice during his Formula 1 career and couldn’t even start last year. This season Charles is seriously claiming the title and the leg ahead is very important for him and for the team.†
Q: You are fighting for the championship and for your home Grand Prix – what will be the approach to work this weekend?
Charles Leclerc: Business attitude and work attitude are always the same whether we are leading the championship or not. Every point earned is valuable. We have very strong opponents and we know that even the smallest mistake can seriously affect the results.
From the very beginning of the season, the victories go to the teams that manage to do everything perfectly, and now we will try to make sure that this team is Ferrari. There is confidence that we can do it, and that is a good thing, although at the same time we understand that it will not be easy to achieve our goals.
Q: This year the format of the race weekend in Monaco has changed – what do you think?
Charles Leclerc: For the first time, the Monaco weekend will be run according to the standard schedule, with practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday and the race on Sunday. We are used to previous practice sessions at this track taking place on Thursdays, on Friday there was no activity on the track, at least in Formula 1.
I think this will give the weekend the same rhythm as in all other phases of the championship, and that probably isn’t bad. I want to start working on the job as soon as possible.
Q: Which parts do you like the most?
Charles Leclerc: Definitely my favorite part of the course is the Piscine, a few escs in the pool. When you drive it, you experience incredible sensations and I really enjoy driving there. Besides, I learned to swim in this pool as a kid, so I kind of have an emotional connection to this place, which gives it a special meaning.
